In the mid 1990s, guided by prayer, the congregation of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church defined its role within the worldwide body of Christ in a Mission and Vision Statement that governs our current programs as well as our vision for the future. Concurrently, data gathered from the congregation showed that the present buildings, which were renovated but not expanded in the mid-1980s, were becoming increasingly inadequate to meet the needs of church programs dedicated to our mission and vision. By 2001, the buildings had become so cramped that there was no room for growth in current programs (Meals on Wheels, for example). New programs, such as adult Christian Education classes, could not be implemented at all. Therefore, in February 2002, the Session responded by asking all constituencies of the congregation to project their needs for programs and facilities for five to ten years. Careful analysis of this data has gradually led us to the current building campaign.
