Headnote:  The Index of Graveyard Records was completed in July 2002 after several years of extensive research. It lists the names and death dates of 800 individuals buried or memorialized in the graveyard of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, Charleston, SC, as of July 31, 2002. The Index of Memorials was also completed at this time and lists the names and death dates of those with memorial tablets or windows in the church.

A 1959 building project necessitated the relocation of some tombstones to other areas of the churchyard. Many were placed in the churchyard walls in order to preserve them. No records have been found detailing the relocation. Efforts were made over the years to identify and record all of the tombstones, but due to their age and exposure to the elements, many were difficult to read. In recent years, old records have been found that have enabled us to reexamine each individual stone for accuracy resulting in this 2002 Index.
