The Rev. Lissa Long
Transitional Director of Christian Education
As the Transitional D.C.E., Lissa will be assisting the Christian Education Ministries at First (Scots) primarily focusing on Sunday School, Mid-Week programs, Wednesday Night Programming and Kirk Club. She looks forward to helping God’s people of all ages invest in their spiritual formation and discipleship.
Lissa grew-up in Athens, Ga. and was nurtured in the faith by her family and church leaders. Following High School, she attended Presbyterian College (Go Blue Hose!) majoring in Christian Education/Religion. Lissa worked as the D.C.E. for First Presbyterian Church, York, SC. and later moved to Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church as their Director for Youth and Families. During that time Lissa met her husband, Grahame Long, the Chief Curator for the Charleston Museum. In 2005, Lissa began work with hospice as a chaplain. Grahame and Lissa joined First (Scots) Presbyterian shortly after and welcomed two beautiful girls, Macie (9) and Sumner (5). Both baptized by the Rev. James Rogers at First (Scots) Presbyterian. Lissa worked as the Nursery Coordinator here at First (Scots) for several years until she moved into the role of Associate Pastor at Palmetto Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant.
Lissa has her Master of Divinity degree from Erskine Theological Seminary and her Christian Educator Certification through the PC(U.S.A.) Church. She is a member of the Rebecca Motte Chapter of the DAR, F.A.N.S. for the Charleston Museum, and P.E.O.
The Long family enjoys spending time as a family at one of the local museums or parks, Edisto beach and riding bikes as a family. Lissa enjoys walking, reading, watching West Wing and blogging (http://worshippingparent.blogspot.com/).
