Summoned by God's grace in Jesus Christ to be friends
and servants to God and neighbor, and to make disciples of all
nations, our mission is to glorify and enjoy God, honoring the
past, serving the present, and shaping the future through shared
ministries of worship, education, mission and fellowship.
Vision
We are an historic church of the Reformed
tradition
in the heart of Charleston.
Jesus Christ is the center of our life and witness.
We seek better to know him, to love him, and to obey him.
We bear Christ's name―
carefully, for we are not our own;
gratefully, for we have been purchased at a price;
joyfully, for we have been enlisted in his service.
We serve through WORSHIP:
praising our sovereign God
as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;
listening for God's truth in scripture;
communing in prayer;
celebrating the gospel in sermon, sacrament, and song;
and dedicating ourselves and our resources
with gratitude and love.
We serve through EDUCATION:
studying the sacred scriptures
as God's authoritative guide for faith and life;
relying on the Holy Spirit as we seek
the mind and the meaning of Jesus Christ
as Savior and Lord;
learning from our Judeo-Christian history
and from the confessions of our Reformed and Presbyterian
heritage;
engaging in dialogue with other people of faith;
respecting all honest inquiry, recognizing there are diverse convictions;
struggling with the issues of our day;
growing in our daily walk with God;
developing our minds, our skills, and our talents;
and equipping disciples of all ages
for mission now and in the future.
We serve through MISSION:
bearing witness to God's truth and grace
in word, deed, and disposition;
reaching out to all in need among us and beyond us,
the lost and the lonely, the confused and the distressed, and
the poor and the oppressed;
proclaiming the gospel; working for reconciliation;
striving for justice; showing compassion;
seeking peace; promoting holiness;
practicing stewardship; and supporting throughout the world
ministries of preaching, teaching, and healing.
We serve through FELLOWSHIP:
affirming the unity and diversity of God's people;
practicing hospitality; working ecumenically;
strengthening our bonds of love and friendship;
sharing our joys; bearing one another's burdens;
praying for and encouraging one another; and
inviting others to become servants with us.
